Conny Czymoch is an independent international moderator and journalist.
She has been engaged in conference moderation for the European Union, the OECD, German ministries, blue chip corporations, associations, and non-profit organisations for more than two decades, covering a host of global topics.
Topics such as global goals (by 2030), sustainability, international relations, economic and labour issues, supply chains as well as resource efficiency, food and agriculture, climate change, digitization in all walks of business and life, mobility, and social responsibility are at the core of her interests and competence. She frequently moderated at the GFFA, Berlin, for Agricultural and Farmers Associations, for the Ministries for Economic Cooperation as well as for the Ministry for Agriculture, as well as the Future Food, always on diverse aspects of how to feed the world.
For fourteen years until 2011, she worked as anchorwoman for the German political television channel Phoenix. Before that, she was reporter and moderator for Deutsche Welle tv, Deutschlandfunk, WDR, and RTHK (Hong Kong).
Conny is also a media coach for top management – with customers from DAX30 companies as well as international NGOs.
Equal working languages are German and English, conversational French on stage.
Stefan Storcksdieck genannt Bonsmann studied nutritional sciences and home economics in Giessen, Germany, followed by a PhD on iron bioavailability at ETH Zurich, Switzerland. From 2008 to 2013, he worked as a Project Manager on nutrition and health topics at the European Food Information Council (EUFIC) in Brussels, Belgium. Following this, Stefan spent 7.5 years as a Scientific Project Officer in the field of public health policy support at the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission in Ispra, Italy. Since September 2020, Stefan is with the Max Rubner-Institute (MRI), which is the Federal Research Institute of Nutrition and Food. At the MRI, he holds a dual role of Deputy Head of the Institute for Nutritional Behaviour as well as team leader on special aspects of nutrition behaviour research. His current projects relate to food composition and reformulation, nutrition labelling, food literacy, and determinants of dietary behaviour.
Dr. Jesus Fernandez has been the Deputy Director for Program of the SEAMEO Regional Centre for Food and Nutrition (RECFON) in Jakarta, Indonesia since 2019. He is in charge of developing and supervising the implementation of the Centre’s cutting-edge programs and establishing and maintaining functional strategic alliances with relevant institutions in Southeast Asia.
Before joining RECFON, he served as the Deputy Director for Program of the SEAMEO Regional Centre for Tropical Biology (BIOTROP) from 2010 to 2018, and also as a Capacity Building Specialist and Technical Coordinator of the Southeast Asian Network for Agroforestry Education (SEANAFE) from 2006 to 2010.
He worked as a Training Department Manager of the SEAMEO Regional Centre for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) from 2003 to 2006 and was appointed as adjunct assistant professor of the College of Development Communication of the University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB) in SY 1999-2000.
His areas of specialization include organizational communication and management, strategic planning, project management, networking and collaboration, capacity building and human resource development, knowledge management, and creating systems-based solutions.
In 2015, Dr. Fernandez was recognized as the Distinguished Alumnus of the College of Development Communication and as one of the Outstanding Alumni of UPLB in the area of Communication for International Development. He earned his BS and MS degrees in Development Communication and PhD degree in Community Development from UPLB.
Miriam provides strategic leadership and technical guidance to GAIN’s projects and partnerships that improve the diets of children aged 0 -10 years old. These aim to transform food systems to protect and cater to the specific needs of children. Before joining GAIN, she managed a first of its kind co-created nutrition programme at the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) and worked at the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) in Mexico. Miriam started her career in government, specialising in youth engagement. She is passionate about child-centered systems approaches to improve children’s nutrition during their first 8,000 days. Miriam holds a Masters Degree in Environment and Development, and a Bachelors Degree in Philosophy and Political Science from the University of Manchester.
Mamta Gurung Nyangmi is a development strategy consultant currently based in Nepal. She has over 15 years of experience in international and community development specializing in policy, advocacy, program design and project management.
Presently, Mamta is working on several initiatives. Primarily as the Asia Pacific Program Coordinator for Global Child Nutrition Foundation leading its government and stakeholder engagement in over 60 countries, fostering partnerships, facilitating regional networks and managing its Learning Exchange project in India. She is also a team member of a pilot project for transformational leadership, coaching female deputy mayors in Nepal led by Nepal Communitere and Women Lead.
Prior to this Mamta was the Head of Education Support at the World Food Programme in Nepal where she spearheaded a holistic school health and nutrition operations, creating convergence of school meals programs with literacy, health and hygiene initiatives to enhance learning in rural public schools. She has worked extensively in safety net and social protection and has served in several leadership roles. With a passion for social and gender justice Mamta is deliberate about ensuring equality and inclusivity lens through her work. Mamta completed her Bachelors in English Literature from Delhi University, Bachelors in International Development from City University of New York and Masters in International Development from Cornell University.
Francesco Branca is the Director of the Department of Nutrition and Food safety in the World Health Organization, Geneva (since February 2020).
From 2008 to 2019, he was the Director of the Department of Nutrition for Health and Development. During this period, WHO has developed a WHO Nutrition strategy, established a new nutrition guideline development process and has developed a Comprehensive Implementation Plan on Maternal, Infant and Young Child Nutrition with six global targets. He has been leading the preparation of the 2nd International Conference on Nutrition and the Secretariat of the Decade of Action on Nutrition. Before that, in 2005-2008, Dr Branca was the Regional Advisor for Nutrition at the WHO Regional Office for Europe.
Between 1988 and 2005, he has been a Senior Scientist at the Italian Food and Nutrition research Institute where he was leading studies on the effects of food and nutrients on human health at the different stages of the life cycle and on the impact of public health nutrition programmes. He has been President of the Federation of the European Nutrition Societies in 2003-2007.
In 1985-1986, Dr Branca has been a medical staff of a Primary Health Care project in the South of Somalia ran by the Italian NGO, CISP
Dr Branca graduated in Medicine and Surgery and specialized in Diabetology and Metabolic Diseases at the Universita' Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Roma and obtained a Msc and then a PhD in Nutrition at Aberdeen University.
Arlene Mitchell is the Executive Director of the Global Child Nutrition Foundation (GCNF), working with a global network of governments, experts, and other stakeholders to ensure that school-age children around the world have access to education and nutritious, locally-sourced meals. Arlene joined GCNF in April 2014.
Arlene was a Senior Program Officer and then Deputy Director for Agricultural Development at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where she worked for nearly six years. Arlene was also an executive in the United Nations World Food Program. There, she led the school feeding program, management and security training activities, and an annual global walk to raise awareness about child hunger. Arlene also managed international technical assistance for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and served both as a volunteer and as a staff member of the United States Peace Corps.
Raised on a family farm in Michigan, Arlene graduated from Michigan State University, and had multiple early career experiences, including factory work; child, juvenile, and invalid care, and serving as a foster parent for multiple children. She ran a restaurant and a snack machine business as well.
Emily is the Global Co-Coordinator of the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Business Network, where she oversees execution of the Network's mandate as it supports business engagement and investment in nutrition across countries subscribing to the global SUN Movement. She has supported this work for the past 3 years, working to strengthen and expand national SUN Business Networks, and also increase coordination and collaboration within the SUN Movement more broadly. Before joining the global SBN Secretariat, Emily spent four years in the WFP Zambia Country Office, where she led a range of nutrition and social protection programmes. Her previous experience focused more within the public health space, where she worked for Clinton Health Access Initiative, supporting the Zambian government on health workforce and other health systems strengthening programming. She also spent five years working within the private sector within the pharmaceutical industry. Emily has Masters degrees in Business Administration and Public Health from the University of Michigan. She lives in Lusaka, Zambia, with her family.
