Policies against Hunger XIV took place on 27/28 June 2023 in Berlin. Please find more information in the background paper.
The 14th “Policies against Hunger” Conference under the topic “Human rights-based approaches to food systems transformation”, around 250 participants from 28 countries developed recommendations for food systems transformation from a human rights perspective.
Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture Özdemir opened the conference (Opening Federal Minister Özdemir). State Secretary Flasbarth from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and Minister of State from the Foreign Office Lindner welcomed the guests. The chair of the Policies against Hunger Conference, CFS Chairperson Gabriel Ferrero de Loma-Osorio held a keynote, followed by Michael Windfuhr, Vice Chair of the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
In the following panel discussion, Michael Fakhri, UN Rapporteur on the right to adequate food, Elisabetta Recine, President of the National Council for Food and Nutrition Security (CONSEA), Martin Frick, Director of the World Food Programme’s Office Berlin (WFP) and Beth Bechdol, Deputy Director-General from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) set the scene for the two conference days.
Parliamentary State Secretary Müller from the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture and Conference Chair Gabriel Ferrero closed the conference.
The recommendations of the conference participants will be fed into international processes to advance food systems transformation, e.g. into the 2030 Agenda, the follow-up to the United Nations Food Summit and the work in the United Nations Committee on World Food Security (CFS), as well as national policy-making.
