The eighth "Policies against Hunger" conference, this year devoted to the subject of "Improving Governance for Food Security and Nutrition", took place in Berlin from 9 to 11 June 2010. Following the 2009 World Food Summit in Rome and the reform of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS), this conference was aimed at creating a forum for discussion on the subjects of governance, food security and nutrition and formulating specific recommendations for action, particularly in view of the forthcoming first session of the reformed CFS.

The conference brought together key figures in the current world food debate, including the Chairman of the CFS, Mr Noel de Luna, the Coordinator of the UN High Level Task Force on the Global Food Security Crisis (HLTF) and Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Food Security and Nutrition, Mr David Nabarro, the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, Mr Olivier De Schutter, the Chairman of the UN Standing Committee on Nutrition (SCN), Mr Alexander Müller, Uganda's Agriculture Minister, Ms Hope Mwesigye, as well as other high-ranking representatives from developing and industrialised countries, from industry, science and civil society. About one third of the over 250 participants in this year's conference came from developing and emerging countries.
